Dan Tate

Founding Partner Dan Tate, Jr. brings more than 25 years of government relations experience to FTP.

His experience includes a decade of senior staff positions in the White House, U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. House of Representatives.

Prior to starting Forbes Tate Partners with Jeff Forbes, Mr. Tate spent ten years in private practice in both large and boutique firms working with clients. He brings the best practices learned from those experiences to implement at FTP.

He also served in the Clinton Administration for three years as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs – and was a key member of the White House team responsible for developing and implementing the Clinton Administration’s legislative agenda on trade, energy, environment, telecommunications, transportation, and financial services issues.

While working with Members of Congress from across the political spectrum, Dan was President Clinton’s liaison to Democratic and Republican moderates in Congress – working particularly closely with the New Democrats and the Blue Dogs.

Prior to his work at the White House, Mr. Tate served for two years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy, where he was a chief strategist and advocate for the Secretary of Energy and the Department with the U.S. House of Representatives. There, Dan developed and implemented the Agency’s legislative agenda on electricity policy, environmental remediation, and national security priorities.

For roughly four years, Mr. Tate worked for former Representative W.J. “Billy” Tauzin – as Tauzin’s legislative director and chief political advisor, where he helped to craft landmark energy and telecommunications legislation.

Since leaving the White House, Mr. Tate has used his high-level government experience and legislative expertise to successfully represent a diverse group of Fortune 500 companies and major policy coalitions – including those in the energy, environment, telecommunications, and healthcare industries – on matters before the Legislative and Executive Branches of government.

Mr. Tate has strong, long-standing relationships with key centrists in Congress, and provides the firm’s clients with key services, including: government relations support, coalition management, and strategic advising. He is perennially named one of the leading lobbyists inside the Beltway by The Hill.

While a native of the Peach State, Mr. Tate graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts. Dan lives in Washington, DC with his wife and their two children.
